Union Minister of State for Defence Subhash Ramrao Bhamre informed the Lok Sabha that soon the government is considering to permit girls to seek admission into the 26 Sainik schools in the country and the National Defence Academy (NDA), according to news reports.
Bhamre further said proposals are pending with the government for the setting up of 21 more Sainik schools across the country.
Finance and Defence Minister Arun Jaitley said during the question hour the government has allocated Rs. 80 crore from the Budget for these schools. Jaitley said the issue is under the consideration of the defence ministry.
Jaitley said Sainik schools and the Rashtriya Military schools had sent 190 cadets to NDA in 2016.
